The film Hayat, written and directed by Zeki Demirkubuz and submitted as Turkey's candidate for the International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards , failed to make the shortlist.
Following the announcement of the results, Demirkubuz released a statement on the social media platform X.
THE OSCARS ARE A SERIOUS BUSINESS
In his post, Demirkubuz offered a critical assessment of Turkey's Oscar process, stating:
"The way to value ourselves is not by belittling others. The Oscars are a serious business. I wish we had been more serious, planned, and prepared, and I wish we weren't so shortsighted, lacking in tradition, and insecure. I thank those who contributed, those who put in the effort, and those who got more excited and more upset than we did."
