Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Tomb opens its doors to visitors

Among those attending the opening were Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı as well as Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Dr. Coşkun Yılmaz.

Speaking to members of the press, Yazgı pointed out that the most important characteristic of Pertevniyal Valide Sultan was her philanthropy, stating, "Pertevniyal Valide Sultan is famous for many mosques, madrasas, and charitable works in Aksaray. She is one of the most important female philanthropic figures in our history. There was a need for maintenance here for a long time. Upon the instructions of our Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, we decided to specifically address the tombs in Istanbul."

Stating that they named the restoration of the tombs in Istanbul "Respect for Ancestors, Reviving Art," Yazgı noted the following:

"These tombs of ours are also works of art. They all have very beautiful pen and calligraphy craftsmanship. We handled these as a project. The Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Tomb was one of them. To date, we have completed 48 of them. We have 124 tombs under our jurisdiction. We have completed the projects for 19 of them. Next year, we will hold the tenders for 24 of them and start. Hopefully, we will carry out the maintenance and repair of these tombs by 2026."

Gökhan Yazgı pointed out that the tomb restoration processes are arduous, and said that they carried out the restoration process of the Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Tomb together with the Ministry of National Education and the Sabancı Maturity Institute.
