Seha Okuş, the voice of Yeşilçam remembered for the song 'Hasretinle Yandı Gönlüm', has passed away

Seha Okuş, one of the unforgettable names of Turkish music, has lost her battle for life in intensive care despite long-term treatment. The artist's passing is considered the closing of an important chapter in Turkish Folk and Art Music.

Born in 1928, Münevver Seha Okuş Özveren began her music career after graduating from the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. Okuş, who served for 35 years at Istanbul Radio and the conservatory, was also among the prominent members of the "Yurttan Sesler" (Voices from the Homeland) Choir at TRT. She earned a special place in the hearts of art lovers not only through her radio programs but also with her voice that brought classic Yeşilçam films to life.

Okuş made herself known to wide audiences with the works she performed in productions that left their mark on Turkish cinema history, such as "Dönüş," "Mahpus," "Toprak Ana," "Açlık," and "Kuma." The fact that the artist was the aunt of the famous theater actor Müjdat Gezen revealed another dimension of her influence in the cultural world.

Seha Okuş, who served as the Head of the Folk Music Department and a repertoire instructor at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center starting in 1990, played a major role in the training of countless young artists. Her album "Hasretinle Yandı Gönlüm," released in 2002 and consisting of 17 works, is considered one of the most valuable examples of her musical legacy.
