Selçuk Yöntem: 'We married Zuhal when we were very young, it was pure bravado'

Master actor Selçuk Yöntem was a guest on the Empati program broadcast on NTV.

Sharing unknown details about his life, Yöntem made statements regarding the train accident he had in 1979 and his ex-wife Zuhal Olcay.

The actor said, "The train accident I had in 1979 was a great pain for me. It happened while we were going on tour from Ankara to Istanbul. Even though we didn't have a play, it snowed and we decided to go by train. I didn't want to go. I was seeing Zuhal (Olcay) off, and they forced me onto the train."

'40 PEOPLE DIED'

Yöntem continued his words by saying, "Because the food they wanted arrived late, everyone went to the wagon. I and three other people remained. 45 seconds after they left, we collided with the train coming from the opposite direction. 40 people died. My classmate Nedim passed away. We carried the wounded until morning... This left a great mark on me."

Taylan asked, "You didn't have a foreign language but you went to London; did you say England was worth 10 years of experience for me? What happened in England?"

'THERE WERE SOME MISFORTUNES'

The actor replied, "What didn't happen? It was a dream, to do a master's in England, to go to the Royal Academy, we had to work of course. There were some misfortunes. We went to a family's place with Zuhal, a friend found me a hosting job at a bar, but I didn't know English. They prepared the text for me to present, I memorized it. I read it and get off stage, that's how we managed for 1-2 months."

'ZUHAL REALLY WANTED TO RETURN'

Yöntem continued his words, "I did ironing, waitering, washed dishes, and rose to the position of manager at a restaurant. Then we decided to return. We were very young, we married very young, she was 19 and I was 23, can you imagine, look at that bravado? Zuhal really wanted to return, so we returned..."
