Sema Özcan, known for the film 'Time to Love', explains why she quit acting: 'They blame my husband, but...'

Having turned down interview requests for 53 years, one of the unforgettable names of Yeşilçam, Sema Özcan, spoke about her old Yeşilçam days, her grievances, and the life she has led abroad.

Özcan, who became famous as the "woman in the photograph" of cinema with the film Time to Love, in which she starred alongside Müşfik Kenter, also touched upon her experiences during the filming, her decision to quit acting, and the years she spent away from cinema in her interview.

Sema Özcan, the first university-educated star of Yeşilçam who reached the pinnacle with her talent and beauty, said in her statement to Milliyet Sanat, "The person who made me who I am is Yıldız Kenter. She put so much effort into me, so that I would be very, very good on stage. She made me work very hard. I owe it to her."

'I LEFT THE FILM WHEN I SAW IT HAD BEEN DUBBED'

Sema Özcan summarized the difficulties she faced during the filming of Time to Love, where she became famous as the "woman in the photograph" of cinema, with the words: "The filming didn't end very happily; we suffered a lot. In that era, films were shot in 15-20 days. The filming of this movie took six months. And when the film was finished, we were at odds with Metin Erksan." She then added:

"Because the late Metin Erksan was angry with both Müşfik Kenter and me, he had our dubbing done by others. I didn't know this. The film started at the Yeni Melek Cinema. When I saw that the film had been dubbed by someone else in a way that upset me, I left the cinema. This, of course, hurt us deeply. And after that, I didn't participate in any events."

'I QUIT MY PROFESSION'

Sema Özcan, who had a very brilliant career first in theater and then in cinema, and who left acting at the peak of her fame, stated: "They always attribute the reason for this to my husband. That is completely wrong. On the contrary, my husband and his family wanted me to continue my profession. My sudden marriage had been a surprise to many people. They wanted to talk to me. When my husband came for lunch, he sat on the side out of courtesy. He was listening to us. The flashes, the questions, etc., all the action was revolving around me.

Even though I am a person who loves her profession very much, the fact that my husband was sitting on the side so politely, without making a sound, suddenly bothered me, and all of a sudden, in a way I didn't even know myself, I surprised my husband as well as the photographer and journalist friends by saying, 'I have quit my profession.' But it happened all of a sudden. It was something I said without thinking. Because I didn't like that picture," she said.
