Statement from SEYAP on Kızıl Goncalar: 'Let art workers remain free'

RTÜK's decision to impose a two-episode suspension and a 9 million TL fine on the TV series Kızıl Goncalar continues to occupy the public agenda.

The Cinema Works Producers Professional Association (SEYAP) has strongly condemned the perception operation being conducted against the Kızıl Goncalar series.

'LET ART WORKERS REMAIN FREE'

The statement issued by SEYAP included the following remarks:

"The existence of all creative fields is being threatened by censorship, and an attempt is being made to create a climate of fear. Censorship has become a common struggle for all creative fields on a universal level. In our country, Article 64 of the Constitution is clear and explicit.

The state protects artistic activities and the artist. We cannot breathe due to censorship and obstacles. Remove the obstacles before our freedom of artistic expression, and let artists and art workers remain free."

'THEY HAVE DECLARED WAR ON US'

Faruk Turgut, the producer of Kızıl Goncalar, which depicts secular and conservative lives, had said, "They have declared war on us, but we will fight to the end. These obstacles will cause me a loss of 10 million TL, but health comes first. We will find new locations like lions."

WHAT IS THE PLOT OF KIZIL GONCALAR?

Kızıl Goncalar tells the story of the intersecting fates of Levent (Özcan Deniz), a secular follower of Atatürk, and Meryem (Özgü Namal), who lives within a devout religious sect, while highlighting the unifying power of motherhood/fatherhood when it comes to "children," despite differences in faith and opinion.

The production of Kızıl Goncalar is undertaken by Faruk Turgut, while the screenplay is written by Şükrü Necati Şahin. The series stars Özcan Deniz and Özgü Namal.
