She experienced both fame and downfall at their peaks: 29 years without Belgin Doruk

Taking her place among the unforgettable artists of Yeşilçam, Belgin Dorukwas born on June 28, 1936, as the child of Hasan Doruk and Refet Hanım.

In a competition organized by Yıldız magazine and İstanbul Film in 1952, Doruk was chosen as the winner among young women and, in the same year, stepped into cinema with the film Faruk Kenç's "Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe'nin Definesi," which he both wrote and directed.

The artist was chosen as the Second Beauty of Turkey in the 1953 beauty pageant and starred in the films "Köroğlu/Türkan Sultan" and "Öldüren Şehir," directed by Ömer Lütfi Akad, where she appeared on camera for the first time with Ayhan Işık. She appeared in the films.

Despite her family's objections, Doruk married director Kenç, the nephew of Enver Pasha, in 1954, and their daughter Gül was born in 1955. The couple divorced after a 5-year marriage.

The successful artist starred in Neriman Köksal and Kenan Pars in "Ölüm Korkusu" in 1955, with Zeki Müren in "Son Beste," and in 1957 with Turan Seyfioğlu in "Çölde Bir İstanbul Kızı." She played the lead roles in these films.

'LITTLE LADY' BECAME HER MOST BELOVED FILM

Doruk shared the lead roles with Ayhan Işık and Sadri Alışık in the 1961 film "Küçük Hanımefendi," directed by Nejat Saydam,

which is among the unforgettable classics of cinema. The film was one of the most-watched and most-liked of the year, and after receiving very positive reviews, sequels titled "Küçük Hanım Avrupa'da" and "Küçük Hanımın Kısmeti" were filmed in 1962, and "Küçük Hanımın Şoförü" in 1970, all with the same cast.

The artist Zeki Müren also starred in a series of films with the artist, including "Kırık Plak" in 1959, "Hep O Şarkı" in 1961, "Bahçevan" in 1962, "İstanbul Kaldırımları" in 1963, and "Hayat Bazen Tatlıdır" in 1964.

Doruk, who married director and screenwriter Özdemir Birsel in 1961, shared the lead role in the 1964 film "Duvarların Ötesi" with Tanju Gürsu and Erol Taş. The artist's son, Aydın, was born in 1967.

Becoming one of the indispensable actors of melodramas and emotional comedies in particular, the artist starred in the most acclaimed productions of the 1950s and 1960s.

The successful actress was awarded "Best Actress" at the 1970 Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for the 1969 film "Ayşecik-Yuvanın Bekçileri."

LOST HER HEALTH DUE TO DIET PILLS

Having difficult days due to the side effects of pills she used to lose weight and the psychological problems she experienced, the artist spent some time at the French Lape Hospital, where psychiatric patients are treated.

In addition to her health problems, the artist's household goods were seized when her husband went bankrupt in the early 1970s, leaving her economically shaken.

Throughout her career, she starred with Ayhan Işık, Zeki Müren, Göksel Arsoy, Eşref Kolçak, Ekrem Bora, Tamer Yiğit, Ediz Hun, Cüneyt Arkın and İzzet Günay, and she played in her final film, 'Gecekondu Rüzgarı,' in 1972.

LEFT CINEMA IN 1975

The artist, whom Zeki Müren described as "beautiful from the tip of her nose to the shadow of her eyelashes," announced that she had left cinema in 1975.

Doruk, who passed away on March 26, 1995, one week after the death of Sadri Alışık, was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.

Belgin Doruk shared the following about 1960s Turkish cinema on the program "Kamera Arkası," which aired on TRT in 1987:

"It was a matter of supply and demand. We made those films because the public loved them. The audience wanted to laugh and cry. Even films were shot twice. All the novels and so on. The number of films I acted in in a year did not exceed 12. But at one point, I think it was around 1958, I know I worked on 3 films in a single day.

I remember going to one set in the morning until noon, another from afternoon until evening, and a third from evening until morning. We experienced what we call the 'Golden Age'—we were in the arms of our audience, feeling that great enthusiasm within us; they were with us, and we were with them. When a film was being shot, we worked under a police cordon. What a great crush it was just to see one of us. I remember the windows of cinemas being broken at premieres."
