She had made headlines with a fundraising campaign: Evre Başak Clarke, who was battling cancer, has passed away

Born in 1985, Turkish artist Evre Başak Clarke, whose real name was Evre Başak Okumuş, lived in Buckinghamshire, England, and was a graduate of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Fashion Design Department. Starting her artistic journey in the fields of painting, digital design, and experimental art, Clarke was particularly noted for her animal portraits.

The artist married British citizen Philip Clarke in 2023 and welcomed her son, Oscar, that same year. However, shortly after this happy period, Clarke was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer. The artist, who announced that the disease had spread to her liver and lungs, had shared that her doctors had given her only 3–4 weeks to live.

During this process, Clarke launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe titled “Evre’s Battle: Baby Oscar’s Future” to both cover her treatment costs and secure the future of her young son, Oscar. Approximately 230 thousand pounds (about 12 million TL) were raised in the campaign, which was supported by nearly 6,700 people.

However, the campaign soon became a subject of debate on social media. Some users raised questions regarding the high amount of donations, inconsistencies in the statements, and issues of transparency. Allegations appeared on Ekşi Sözlük and various other platforms claiming that the artist had removed her medical records, set her social media accounts to private, and deleted some of her posts.

HER FAMILY ANNOUNCED THE NEWS OF HER DEATH

In a statement released on social media, the artist's family said, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evre Başak Clarke. After a long battle with cancer, Evre spent her final three weeks surrounded by the love of her family and closest friends.”

The family also thanked those who loved Clarke, sharing the words, “We hope you keep her alive in your hearts, express your love through your art, and live every day to the fullest. Thank you for supporting Evre throughout the years, and especially for inspiring her during her final difficult years. For now, we ask that you respect our privacy as we try to cope with this loss.”
