Turkey's selection for France's prestigious Goncourt literary award has been determined

The jury invited by the Goncourt Academy in France to determine the Turkey selection for the literary award it presents under its own name has deemed French author Neige Sinno worthy of the award for her novel "Triste Tigre".

The Goncourt Academy in France presents a Literary Award to an author every year. In addition to this, juries in various countries also make their own country's Goncourt selections.

The Academy included Turkey among the countries that will make this selection, following an initiative by the French Institute in Turkey.

In this context, the jury, which included academics from the French language departments of universities in Turkey, read and evaluated the works on the list created by the academy over the course of 4 months.

THE JURY HAS MADE ITS SELECTION

French author Mathias Enard, winner of the Goncourt Academy Literary Award, chaired the Turkish jury.

The selection of the jury in Turkey was announced by author Mathias Enard.

Enard stated, "It is with great honor that I am proud to announce the selection of Turkey's Goncourt jury, which I chaired. Neige Sinno has won Turkey's Goncourt selection with her novel Triste Tigre. We extend our congratulations to Neige Sinno. We were very impressed by how such a sensitive subject as incest was handled in such a balanced and careful manner. The use of all layers of language was very influential in the decision."

Sinno's book will be translated into Turkish through the initiative of the French Institute in Turkey.
