Turna Misali returns from New York with awards

Turna Misali, which was the opening film of the 13th International Filmmaker Festival of New York, was also honored with the 'Best Feature Film' and 'Best Cinematography' awards at the same festival.

Among the guests at the screening of Turna Misali during the festival opening on May 3 were Turkish Deputy Consul General in New York Tugay Şen, artist Sezen Ulucan, and renowned actress Meltem Cumbul.

'DEFENDS THE RIGHT TO LIVE'

Director Eren Danışman Boz spoke about the awards the film received:

"We are very happy to be deemed worthy of two important awards in a country that is a pioneer in the film industry. Just like the Native Americans or the Maasai people, our film, which focuses on the struggle between traditional and modern life for the nomads still living in our country, defends everyone's right to be themselves and to live as they choose. We are very proud to have introduced Turkish Cinema and Turkish Culture to America."

PLOT OF THE FILM TURNA MİSALİ

Gülsüm Ana, the authoritarian head of a Sarıkeçili Yörük family, begins preparations for the seasonal migration. However, the members of the family and other nomads do not share Gülsüm's opinion. Gülsüm's husband, Cemal, wants to stop migrating and settle down.

Gülsüm's son-in-law, Mustafa, is in favor of buying a tractor and migrating with it. Gülsüm, on the other hand, insists that the migration be carried out in the traditional way, on foot and with camels.

Gülsüm's biggest supporters are her intellectually disabled son, Nurettin, and her granddaughter, Elif. While Gülsüm tries to convince her family and other nomadic families, a rumor begins to spread that the governor's office will block the migration.

Gülsüm is determined to migrate at any cost.
