US director David Lynch, known for films such as "Blue Velvet" and "Mulholland Drive," has died at the age of 78.
US director David Lynch has passed away at the age of 78.
Lynch's family announced the news of his death in a post on his Facebook account.
"There is a great void in the world now that he is no longer with us," the post stated, with Lynch's family requesting that their privacy be respected.
Lynch was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his film "Wild at Heart."
Having previously been nominated for an Oscar four times for his films "Blue Velvet," "Mulholland Drive," and "The Elephant Man," Lynch received an Honorary Oscar in 2019.
