Yılmaz Güney's prison escape to be adapted into a film

The life of actor, director, screenwriter, and producer Yılmaz Güney will be brought to the big screen by Edi and Bruno Hubschmid.

According to a statement from Ugly King Production, the story of Güney's escape from prison will be filmed.

The film, which will tell the life story of Yılmaz Güney, is set to be produced by Kazım Çarman and directed by Cihan İnan, with casting for both local and international actors expected to begin soon.

The film will cover the events following the letter Güney sent to Hubschmid while he was incarcerated at the Isparta semi-open prison, the process of completing his unfinished film "Yol," and his escape story that stretched from the Isparta prison to the island of Rhodes, and eventually to Switzerland and France.

Swiss producer Edi Hubschmid had compiled the period from Güney's escape from prison until his death in the book titled "Yol: A Story of Exile."

Yılmaz Güney was sentenced to 19 years in prison after killing district judge Sefa Mutlu at a casino in the Yumurtalık district of Adana; after serving 5 years, he fled abroad in 1981 while on leave from prison.
