10-ton cocaine operation extended to Istanbul: 10 arrests in investigation

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes Investigation Bureau had launched an ex officio investigation following reports in some national print and visual media stating that "10 tons of narcotics were seized in an operation on a ship in the Atlantic Ocean."

Within the scope of the investigation, 10 of the 12 people detained were arrested, while 2 individuals were released under judicial control conditions.

The suspects detained in the investigation appeared before a judge on charges of "establishing an organization," "drug trafficking," and "laundering assets derived from crime."

Çetin G., Engin Ç., Mesut Y., Fares D., Semra A., Ahmet A., Abdurrahman K., Sulayman M., Mehmet Murat B., İbrahim Y., and Hasan C. were arrested, while A.A. and M.B.A. were released under judicial control conditions.

On the other hand, it was noted that all movable and immovable assets, company and partnership shares, deposits and investment accounts in banks and financial institutions, and assets in cryptocurrency markets and exchanges belonging to United Shipping Gemi Acentalığı Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi (Kamer Shipping) were seized ex officio.
