1,029 irregular migrants apprehended in 'Kalkan-27' operations: Minister Yerlikaya announces

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced in a statement on his social media account that 1,029 irregular migrants were apprehended as part of the 'Kalkan-27' operations. He stated that the operations were carried out in 27 provinces under the coordination of the General Directorate of Security's Department of Anti-Migrant Smuggling and Border Gates and the Presidency of Migration Management. İzmir, Edirne, Kocaeli, Muğla, Van, Antalya, Istanbul, Kırklareli, Konya, Adana, Amasya, Aydın, Bilecik, Bitlis, Erzincan, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Hakkari, Kayseri, Niğde, Ordu, Sakarya, Samsun, Şanlıurfa, Bayburt, Karaman, and Osmaniye are among the provinces affected by these operations.

Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that the operations targeting human smuggling organizers and irregular migrants have been ongoing for 4 days without interruption, stating, “In the Kalkan-27 operations, 84 human smuggling organizers were apprehended. Of these, 25 have been arrested, and judicial control decisions were issued for 7. Judicial proceedings for the others are ongoing. The apprehended irregular migrants have been handed over to removal centers to be sent back to their countries,” he said.

Yerlikaya also thanked the security forces who carried out the operations, saying, “I congratulate our heroic police officers and the personnel of the Presidency of Migration Management. May God protect you. Our nation's prayers are with you.” The Minister emphasized that there will be no compromise in the fight against human smuggling and that the country will not be allowed to become a transit route in this regard.
