It is the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, which remains etched in memory for former Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit’s coded instruction “Ayşe should go on vacation” and which initiated the process leading to the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

12punto columnist retired Brigadier General Dr. Naim Babüroğlu has brought a historic speech by the late Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit out of the archives on the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation. 

Naim Babüroğlu shared the video of Ecevit on his social media account with the message: “Bülent Ecevit criticizes Greece’s policies on the BBC some time after the Cyprus Peace Operation with magnificent diplomatic language. Tremendous knowledge and mastery of English. A statesman…”
