12punto digs into the archives! The 'gender-segregated' remarks of the National Education director dismissed by Erdoğan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has dismissed the national education directors of four provinces with a decision published in the Official Gazette.

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, Emrullah Aydın has been appointed as the permanent successor to Düzce Provincial Director of National Education Tamer Kırbaç, who was previously dismissed.

In addition, the national education directors of Uşak, Tunceli, and Şırnak have also been changed.

12punto investigated the past of Tamer Kırbaç, who was the target of criticism during his tenure in Düzce.

The remarks he made during the relocation process of the Social Sciences High School while serving in Trabzon in 2013 followed him throughout his educational career.

"GIRLS AND BOYS USING THE SAME STAIRCASE..."

Following the relocation decision, Tamer Kırbaç had said, "Male students and female students are staying in the same building, one floor above the other. It honestly bothers me that female and male students use the same staircases to go to sleep, and it makes me feel on edge." In a subsequent statement, Kırbaç did not deny the remarks in question and used the words, "Our directorate has expressed our dissatisfaction with this situation."

These words of Kırbaç had drawn a major public backlash.

ALLEGATIONS OF IRREGULARITY

On the other hand, Kırbaç's name, while he was serving as a District Director of National Education in Muğla, was involved in allegations of 'irregularity' due to unfair principal appointments.

According to reports in the local press, the head of the interview commission had said regarding the district education directors, including Tamer Kırbaç, "They determined who they wanted to work with. Even which school each person would be appointed to was decided. We will give these scores to these names."

Kırbaç was dismissed on March 9, 2015, following the scandal.

During his tenure as the Yenimahalle District Director of National Education, he was also the target of criticism for closing the workshop room and theater hall of the Batıkent Community Center.

HAD BEEN PLACED AT THE DISPOSAL OF THE MINISTRY

Finally, Tamer Kırbaç, against whom an investigation was launched for insulting members of the school parent-teacher association of Turgut Özal Anatolian High School, which was heavily damaged in the earthquake in Düzce, was dismissed and placed at the disposal of the ministry.
