12th hour at the rubble: Mother and father being searched for
Search and rescue efforts have entered their 12th hour at the building that collapsed in the Gebze district of Kocaeli, where the lifeless bodies of 2 children were recovered. Teams are continuing their efforts to reach the mother and father under the rubble.
The building, which had a pharmacy on the ground floor, collapsed for an unknown reason around 07:00 in the morning on Issıkgöl Street in the Mevlana neighborhood.
The 5-member Bilir family, who were residing in the building as tenants, remained under the rubble.
As part of the search and rescue efforts carried out with the participation of a total of 627 personnel, the lifeless bodies of Muhammed Emir (12) and Nisa (14) from the family were recovered during the day. The family's eldest daughter, Dilara (18), was rescued alive from the rubble.
As the efforts enter their 12th hour, the operation conducted by the teams to reach the father, Levent (44), and the mother, Emine Bilir (37), who remain under the rubble, continues.
