15 billion lira processed in POS machine fraud

12 people have been detained in a money laundering operation conducted across three cities. It was revealed that 15 billion lira was processed in exchange for commissions.

15 billion lira processed in POS machine fraud

12 suspects have been detained in an operation conducted simultaneously in 3 provinces, centered in Istanbul, regarding allegations of money laundering through POS machines. 

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch deepened the investigation into allegations of "withdrawing money via Dubai POS machines" and "money laundering," following the arrest of 8 suspects at 2 workplaces in Fatih on January 20. 

15 BILLION LIRA PROCESSED 

As a result of the investigation report prepared by the BRSA (BDDK) during the continuation of the efforts, it was determined that the appearance of jewelry business activity was given through POS devices belonging to companies operating domestically, and thus approximately 15 billion lira was processed in exchange for commissions. 

12 suspects, who were alleged to have engaged in unauthorized payment service activities in an organized manner, violated the "Law No. 5464 on Bank Cards and Credit Cards" and committed the crime of "laundering assets derived from crime," were apprehended on June 26 in simultaneous operations centered in Istanbul, with additional raids in Tekirdağ and Nevşehir. 

During searches conducted at the addresses, numerous bank cards belonging to foreign countries, jewelry, digital materials, as well as 148 thousand 700 lira and 465 dollars were seized. 

The processing of the detained suspects at the police station is ongoing.
