150 new taxi licenses for Istanbul: IMM to hold tender

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) will put 150 taxi licenses up for tender as the first phase of 2,500 new taxi licenses under 'App-Based Taxi Transportation'. The tender, which will be conducted in accordance with the municipal council decision taken on September 12, 2024, will grant operating rights to individuals for each license for a period of 29 years.

The tender will be held on February 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Dr. Mimar Kadir Topbaş Performance and Art Center. The deadline for submitting bids has been set for February 17, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Participation in the tender will be via the closed bid method.

The IMM has set the estimated price for each taxi license at 4 million 250 thousand TL + VAT, and announced the temporary guarantee amount as 127 thousand 500 TL.

WHAT ARE THE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS?

Those who wish to participate in the tender must complete their applications within the specified time and submit the necessary documents.

The documents that applicants must submit are as follows:

A residence certificate showing that they reside in Istanbul,

A valid driver's license,

A criminal record certificate,

A receipt indicating that the temporary guarantee has been deposited.

Only individual applications can be made for the tender, and each participant will be able to obtain only one taxi license.

The tender specifications can be obtained from the IMM Public Transportation Services Branch Directorate for 1,000 TL. Applications must be submitted in person to the IMM Council Branch Directorate; applications made via telegram, fax, or mail will not be accepted.

29-YEAR USAGE RIGHT

The regulation regarding taxis, which are one of the important elements of public transportation in Istanbul, has been a subject of public debate for a long time. With the introduction of the new licenses, it is aimed to add more options to taxi services in Istanbul. While the usage rights of taxi licenses issued in the previous period were indefinite, the usage rights of these new licenses will be limited to 29 years.

The new taxis will hit the roads with a new design determined by the votes of Istanbul residents.
