16 detained in investigation into boycott calls

Those detained at midnight as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on allegations of "hate and discrimination" and "inciting the public to hatred and hostility" have been taken to the police department.

The "boycott" call made by university students to stop consumption on April 2, in the process that began following the "İmamoğlu" protests, resonated widely, with many figures from artists to politicians making boycott calls. However, the day before the boycott took place, an investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against those who shared the boycott call.

It was learned that 16 people were detained at midnight following the boycott that took place on April 2.

Lawyers from the Lawyers' Voice Initiative (ASİ) reported that those detained were taken to the Istanbul Police Department. 

Lawyer Kerem Bütün also stated on his X account, "'Boycott' investigations and detentions continue. For now, there is a detention list of 16 people. If they have prosecutors who submit to authority, the people have thousands of lawyers who do not bow down."
