18-vehicle pile-up on TEM highway: Traffic paralyzed

In the accident that occurred in the direction of Istanbul at the Kapandere location of the TEM Highway passing through the İzmit district, 18 vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction traffic accident at different points on the road, which had become slippery due to rainfall.

NUMEROUS TEAMS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE

4 people were injured due to the force of the impact. Upon notification to the 112 Emergency Call Center, fire, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured, who received their first intervention at the scene by health teams, were taken to the hospital.

7-KILOMETER TRAFFIC JAM FORMED

Due to the accident, the Istanbul-bound direction of the highway was closed to traffic, and a 7-kilometer-long vehicle queue formed. While security measures were taken by police teams, the vehicles involved in the accident were removed from the road. After 2 hours of work, traffic returned to its normal flow.

The police have launched an investigation into the accident.
