18-year-old Rümeysa murdered by man after rejecting sexual advances

The incident occurred on Sunday night on Halıdere Old Village Road Street. Police and medical teams, who arrived at the scene following reports that a pickup truck had fallen into a ravine, discovered the lifeless body of 18-year-old Rümeysa Meriç Özcan with a rope tied around her neck under the vehicle.

Özcan’s body was taken to the morgue for an autopsy following the investigation at the scene. The damaged pickup truck was removed from the area with the help of a tow truck.

As part of the investigation, police detained men identified as T.A. (22), E.K. (20), and Y.A. (20), as well as women identified as C.Ç. (20) and K.N. (17). The horrific truth behind Rümeysa Meriç Özcan’s death was revealed at the police station.

ATTEMPTED TO DISGUISE AS AN ACCIDENT

It was learned that T.A. (22), E.K. (20), Y.A. (20), C.Ç. (20), K.N. (17), and Rümeysa Meriç Özcan had met on Saturday evening and consumed alcohol together.

It was reported that after a while, T.A. took Rümeysa Meriç Özcan with him in the pickup truck and drove to the Yukarı Hereke region. In this desolate area, T.A. wanted to have sexual relations with Rümeysa Meriç Özcan. When the young woman refused, the suspect reportedly tied a rope around her neck to intimidate her, attached the other end of the rope to the pickup truck, and assaulted her.

It was revealed that Rümeysa fainted during this time, and T.A., believing the young woman had died, moved the vehicle to dispose of the body. When he released the pickup truck's handbrake, the vehicle fell into a ravine approximately 100 meters deep.

The 5 suspects were referred to the Gölcük Courthouse after their procedures at the police station were completed. T.A. was arrested, while E.K., Y.A., C.Ç., and K.N. were released by the prosecutor's office.
