180 workers, 130 of them women, go on strike at Chinatool Otomotiv!
At Chinatool Otomotiv in Gebze, where the Birleşik Metal-İş Union affiliated with DİSK is organized, no agreement could be reached for a collective bargaining agreement. Consequently, 180 workers decided to go on strike.
Because the collective bargaining process reached a deadlock, workers at Chinatool Otomotiv in Gebze have gone on strike.
In the collective bargaining agreement (TİS) negotiations held at Chinatool Otomotiv, which operates in the Gebze Plastics Organized Industrial Zone and produces automotive parts with a workforce of 183 employees, 130 of whom are women, the employer initially imposed a 20 percent wage increase. The workers and Birleşik Metal-İş rejected this rate and decided to strike. The workers, who did not accept the employer's offer when it was increased by only 5 points to a 25 percent raise, went on strike today.
Birleşik Metal-İş Union President Özkan Atar pointed out that workers and laborers in Turkey are going through very difficult days due to high inflation and constantly falling purchasing power, stating, "As the Birleşik Metal-İş Union, with the strength we draw from our members and the solidarity of our class friends, we are fighting without hesitation to claim our rights and to create conditions where we can live humanely, as well as a safe and peaceful working environment in this country. We have concluded our strikes, which both defend the constitutional rights of workers and improve their economic and democratic rights, with historic gains. Now, we are continuing to escalate our struggle with new strikes."
Stating that the Chinatool employer presented an offer far below the expectations of the unionized workers, Atar said, "We will all shoulder the struggle of the Chinatool workers together, and just as we started our strike today with dances, we will not turn the switches back on until we sign a collective agreement that we will celebrate with dances."
