186.5 million lira in fines imposed on food businesses in August

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı shared the results of food inspections conducted across Turkey throughout August on his social media account. According to the information provided by Minister Yumaklı, a total of 100 thousand 128 food businesses were inspected between August 1 and 31. During this comprehensive monitoring process, a total of 186.5 million lira in fines was imposed on businesses determined not to comply with legal requirements.

Criminal complaints were also filed with the competent authorities to initiate legal proceedings against 49 businesses where certain irregularities were detected during the inspections. In his statement, Minister Yumaklı said, “While 186.5 million lira in fines were imposed on businesses where non-compliance was detected, we filed criminal complaints regarding 49 businesses. While protecting the rights of our honest tradesmen who do their job properly, our fight against those who adulterate the food of our citizens will continue with determination.”

Stating that inspections will continue across the country to maintain sensitivity regarding food safety, the Ministry emphasized that strict measures will be maintained with determination to ensure that citizens have access to healthy and reliable food.
