2 suspects had been released: New development in the case regarding baby Sıla's death
The prison sentences handed down in the case of 2-year-old Sıla Yeniçeri, who lost her life as a result of battery and sexual abuse in Tekirdağ, have been taken to the appellate court.
In the investigation regarding the incident, mother Bakiye Yeniçeri and four others were taken into custody. The Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared two separate indictments against Bakiye Yeniçeri and the other defendants. While a total of 67 years of imprisonment was requested for the mother, various sentences were also sought for the other defendants for various crimes. The indictments were consolidated at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court.
Bakiye Yeniçeri, who lived in the Malkara district of Tekirdağ, said when she took her daughter Sıla to the hospital on August 2 that the bruises on the child's body were caused by her being dropped by a neighbor. However, when Sıla's condition worsened after being taken to the hospital again on September 8, doctors notified the police. Sıla, who was determined to have suffered a brain hemorrhage, was taken into intensive care but lost her life on October 7.

COURT DECISION AND APPEALS
The court sentenced the mother Bakiye Yeniçeri to a total of 27 years and 9 months in prison, while also handing down various prison sentences to the children dragged into crime, K.A. and G.K. However, Sanlı Ö. and Kani A. were acquitted. The lawyer for Sıla's family, Ahmet Berksoy, appealed the acquittal decisions and took the case to the appellate court. Berksoy argued that Kani A. and Sanlı Ö., in particular, should also have received sentences.
Lawyer Berksoy stated that some of the acquittal decisions made by the court were against the law, and expressed the following:
'I believe the file will be overturned regarding certain types of crimes. We will file our appeal and demand that they be punished.'
