The 7.7 magnitude earthquake on February 6, with its epicenter in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, occurred at a depth of 8.6 kilometers. The earthquake, which caused destruction in 11 provinces across Turkey, also resulted in major damage and loss of life in Syria. A total of 50,500 people lost their lives, more than 100,000 people were injured, and 7,248 buildings were destroyed. These earthquakes were recorded as the deadliest in Turkey in the last 100 years.

Among other deadly earthquakes around the world, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives and 2.8 million were affected by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8. According to information released by the Taliban interim government, 2,500 people died and thousands were injured in the earthquake that occurred on October 7 in the city of Herat, Afghanistan, near the Iranian border. In the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred on November 3 in the Jumla region of Nepal, 157 people lost their lives.

While 18 people lost their lives in a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Ecuador on March 18, 11 people died in a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Burias region of the Philippines on November 17.
