242 irregular migrants apprehended in "Kalkan-29" operation in Esenyurt, Istanbul

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that 242 irregular migrants were apprehended during the "Kalkan-29" operation conducted in Esenyurt, Istanbul.

In a post on his social media account, Yerlikaya stated that under the coordination of the Presidency of Migration Management, the Istanbul Provincial Police Department carried out road checks and inspections in parks, gardens, hotels, and the boulevards, streets, and avenues leading to these routes in Esenyurt as part of efforts to combat irregular migration and human smuggling.

Explaining that the fight against irregular migration and human smugglers continues without pause and with determination, Yerlikaya noted the following:

   "In the operation carried out simultaneously with 370 police officers, 93 migration management personnel, and 31 mobile migration point vehicles, the legal residency status of foreign nationals in our country was checked. Identity and fingerprint checks were performed on 4 thousand 765 foreigners using 31 mobile migration point vehicles deployed in various neighborhoods of Esenyurt. 242 of them were determined to be irregular migrants. Procedures for the deportation of the identified irregular migrants have been initiated."
