2nd scandal at the same hospital group: This time targeting 112 personnel...

According to allegations, in January, a 112 team that had picked up a patient went to a private hospital at the citizen's request. It is further alleged that in the emergency room, hospital staff did not provide medical intervention to the patient but instead repeatedly asked about payment for treatment. During this time, a hospital employee said, "If you don't pay, the doctor won't see you." The patient asked, "I don't feel well. Just let the doctor see me. How much is it?"

The hospital employee provided a price. Unable to remain silent, the 112 team reacted, warning, "This is not ethical. The patient has the right to receive healthcare. The patient claims they will pay the fee. At the same time, they have signed the official form and requested to receive service from your hospital."

INSULTED OVER THE PHONE

Following this, the hospital director allegedly spoke with the 112 team over the phone and insulted them. The director then told the 112 team, "The hospital is mine; I will take the 112 patient if I want, and I won't if I don't. The fact that you serve in the public sector means nothing. I have long arms. I will deal with you."

The matter was reported to the hospital owner. The hospital owner then gave instructions not to allow the 112 team leader who issued the warning into the hospital. For approximately 5 months, the hospital management has prevented the 112 employee from entering the hospital, causing emergency patients to wait at the door for minutes.

KEPT WAITING FOR MINUTES

In the most recent incident, the 112 team bringing an emergency patient was met at the door by a person claiming to be the hospital's security director. The patient, who was brought down on a stretcher, was kept waiting at the door for minutes. The security director said, "Let's take the patient; you are forbidden from entering. You know the process. Why are you dragging this out? Tell the doctor to come out from inside. Let's take the patient, you cannot enter. I am the security director of this hospital, I am taking the patient here."

The healthcare workers reacted to being denied entry and the patient being handed over at the door.

THREATENED

On the other hand, the hospital owner allegedly called the 112 worker's personal phone number and said, "I will do whatever is necessary to you and your driver. You don't have to enter the hospital. Even if you are the team leader, I am not letting you into my hospital. You will see where my authority lies now. If I had been there during the day, other things would have happened. You are not the person to argue with me. Go ahead and try to enter, my security will not let you in. Call the police. You will not enter my hospital. Come on then, my girl."

4 YEARS AGO...

In September 2020, a scandalous incident occurred at a hospital belonging to the same group. The fact that hospital staff did not intervene and left 60-year-old Sebahattin Duru, the brother of a martyr, to die after he fell ill in front of the hospital had sparked a major backlash.

The investigation launched by the Provincial Health Directorate concluded that the hospital was not at fault.

STATEMENT FROM THE HOSPITAL

In a statement regarding the matter, Merkez Prime Hospital stated the following:

"112 ambulance personnel brought an emergency patient to the hospital on the morning of January 29. The 112 emergency ambulance team and the patient they brought were taken to the emergency room observation area by hospital staff. It was determined by our hospital staff that the 112 emergency patient did not have social security.

While patients without social security are informed that they do not have coverage before intervention, it was determined during the triage assessment of the patient brought in that they were not in an emergency state and were coded green. The 112 emergency ambulance driver shouted loudly at our hospital staff, 'Would you do the same if it were my mother?'

Our hospital staff stated that the policy applies to every patient. Upon this, the 112 emergency ambulance personnel intervened, stating loudly in front of the patients that this policy could not be implemented, and walked toward our hospital staff. To avoid further trouble, our hospital staff called our medical director, Dr. Koray Topçu, with their own phone and handed the phone to them.

When our medical director asked about the problem, the ambulance personnel suddenly, without any apparent reason, tried to provoke him with sentences containing threats and insults. Our medical director, far from insulting the employee as alleged, was faced with aggressive and threatening sentences before he could even explain the situation. Subsequently, the 112 emergency ambulance worker threw the hospital staff's phone to the ground and broke it. Upon this, our emergency room doctor told them to calm down, saying they cause the same problems and issues every time. At that moment, the 112 emergency ambulance driver also tried to intimidate our doctor with passive-aggressive remarks such as, 'Don't you get involved, doctor, there is no need.'

There are camera recordings documenting everything that happened on the day of the incident. Despite all these allegations, the patient without social security in question was intervened upon by our hospital and their treatment was completed."
