3-story building had collapsed in Küçükçekmece! 'Crack' alarm at a 162-apartment complex in the same area

Cracks have appeared in the columns and balconies of 9-story buildings located in a 5-block complex in the Küçükçekmece İnönü neighborhood.

Residents of the 162-apartment complex have collected signatures for urban transformation. Following the collection of signatures, the residents went to the municipality and applied for urban transformation. After a building collapsed on its own in the Kartaltepe neighborhood of Küçükçekmece on June 2, 2024, the residents applied to the municipality again for an inspection.

Following this, municipal teams took core samples from the buildings today and prepared a report.

A decision on whether the buildings will be demolished will be made in accordance with the core samples taken and the report prepared.

"OUR REQUEST IS FOR ADDITIONAL SQUARE FOOTAGE TO BE GRANTED HERE"

Explaining that they have been trying to get the building into urban transformation for about 8 years, Resul Sayın, President of the Urban Transformation Commission of the complex, said, “As the Doğuş Complex, we established an urban transformation commission and have been struggling for 8 years. The condition of these buildings is truly very bad. Since we were not given a ratio here, we tried to collect signatures from everyone, from all our friends. For about 1.5 years, all the flat owners here have agreed to the buildings entering urban transformation and being demolished. We are talking to construction firms, but because the square footage allowance given to us is low—we are being offered 37 square meters—contractors are not interested. That is why the construction here is deadlocked. Currently, negotiations with the municipality are ongoing. We are trying to get the entire complex into urban transformation so that all 162 rights holders can fully receive their due. Thank you to the municipality, they came today. Core samples are being taken and the buildings will be evacuated, but our request from the municipality is for additional square footage to be granted here.”

Explaining that there was a settlement and shifting in two blocks during the last earthquake, apartment owner İbrahim Altınok said, “The condition of the buildings is very bad; our urban transformation efforts have been ongoing for 2-3 years. As you can see, there is nothing to say, it is very bad. Blocks A1 and A2 have currently shifted. There was a settlement in the buildings during the last earthquake, there was movement. After that earthquake, I moved out of here. There are very few people living here as homeowners; it is mostly tenants. The construction of the buildings began in the years 1987-88.”
