'4 vials of blood' murder: He argued with his mother over 'Vitamin D' and slit her throat

Figen Bezmez, who lived in Bodrum, went to the house on Yaka Street in the Umurça neighborhood on November 24 of last year, around 6:00 PM, after being called by her son Doğukan D., whom she had with her ex-husband. An argument broke out between them. Doğukan D. locked the door, beat his mother, and attacked her with a knife.

Bezmez was injured by the beating and knife wounds to her throat and various parts of her body. Managing to open the locked door with difficulty, Bezmez went outside, collapsed in the garden of the house, and lost her life. Doğukan D., who was taken into custody by the police, was arrested at the courthouse where he was referred a day later.

Indictment prepared seeking 24 years in prison

Following the investigation, an indictment was prepared against Doğukan D. seeking up to 24 years in prison for the crime of 'premeditated murder against a female relative with monstrous feeling or by causing torment.' The two-page indictment stated that Figen Bezmez had been staying in a hotel rather than the same house as her children for the one-month period leading up to the incident because her son, Doğukan D., did not want her there. It was noted that Bezmez went to the house occasionally for needs such as cooking and cleaning. It was also stated that Bezmez's younger son, E.D., went to his mother during the day and came to his older brother's place to sleep at night.

'My Vitamin D value is not in the blood test'

The indictment stated that after Figen Bezmez mentioned feeling dizzy at the gym the day before the incident, she suggested to her son, Doğukan D., that they go to the community health center to have a blood test to check his Vitamin D levels. It was noted that Doğukan D. accepted his mother's offer, gave blood, and then they returned home together after receiving the test results. The events that followed were described in the indictment as follows:

"Seeing that there were no 'Vitamin D' values in the test results, Doğukan D. became angry and started shouting at his mother. Upon this, Bezmez went to the health center again. After a while, Figen Bezmez called her son on the phone and said that the result was not there because 'Vitamin D' was not checked at the health center. It was stated that upon this, Doğukan D. said, 'You made me give 4 vials of blood for nothing. I will spill your 4 vials of blood, come home.'

Worried about her son's state, Bezmez went to the house where her son lived with her younger son, E.D., and a female hotel employee. However, Doğukan D. only let his mother into the house. He beat his mother by punching her and then locked the door. During this time, Bezmez said, 'Open the door, don't lock it, please, don't do it, my son, I'm sorry.' At that moment, her son E.D. and the hotel employee tried to open the door. When the door suddenly opened, Figen Bezmez came out with her throat slit and collapsed in front of her house, losing her life at the scene."

According to the autopsy report, there were 3 different incisions on her neck

The indictment also included Bezmez's autopsy report. The report stated that there were 3 different incisions in Figen Bezmez's neck area, measuring 4, 7, and 15 centimeters. The fact that Doğukan D. confessed to the crime at the police station but used his right to remain silent at the court where he was taken during the arrest phase was also included in the indictment.
