40,000 illegal buildings in Malatya since February 6! 'AKP municipalities are turning a blind eye'
It has been learned that 40,000 illegal buildings have been constructed in Malatya following the February 6 earthquakes.
In Malatya, one of the cities most affected by the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, it has been stated that AKP-run municipalities are turning a blind eye to illegal structures built after the earthquake.
According to a report in Sözcü, Günnur Tabel, CHP Group Spokesperson for the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, said, “The number of illegal buildings constructed in Malatya after the earthquake is around 30,000 to 40,000. Municipal administrations have failed to track these illegally built houses. Unfortunately, we see once again with these illegal structures that no lessons have been learned from the massive and devastating earthquake we experienced on February 6.”

Pointing out that the earthquake risk continues in the region, Tabel added, “We do not understand why municipalities are still turning a blind eye to illegal buildings and failing to carry out the necessary inspections. Municipalities must take full responsibility and find a solution to this issue without victimizing our citizens, who have already suffered great hardships in the earthquake.”
