472 miners in 22 years: The AKP's 'mining massacre' report!
Since the AKP government came to power in 2002, 472 citizens have lost their lives in mining accidents where more than 10 miners died.
Following the accident at the gold mine in the İliç district of Erzincan, the AKP's mining record has once again become a topic of discussion.
After the Soma disaster, in which 301 miners lost their lives, no improvements have been seen in mining operations in Turkey, despite expectations for change.
To date, no minister has resigned following mining massacres, and no bureaucrat has been put on trial.
Journalist Alican Uludağ listed the mining massacres where more than 10 workers died, as follows:
2003: 10 workers in Ermenek, Karaman
2004: 19 workers in Küre, Kastamonu
2009: 19 workers in Mustafakemalpaşa, Bursa
2010: 17 workers in Dursunbey, Balıkesir
2010: 30 workers in Karadon, Zonguldak
2014: 301 workers in Soma, Manisa
2014: 18 workers in Ermenek, Karaman
2016: 16 workers in Şirvan, Siirt
2022: 42 workers in Amasra, Bartın
Thus, a total of 472 miners have lost their lives to date in accidents where more than ten miners died.
