4th hearing in the Isias Hotel case: 72 lives lost, the search for justice continues!

The 4th hearing of the case regarding the Isias Hotel in Adıyaman, where a total of 72 people—including 39 TRNC volleyball players, teachers, and coaches—lost their lives in the February 6 earthquakes, began this morning at the Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court. TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the families of those who lost their lives in the hotel wreckage, and many others attended the trial, in which a total of 11 defendants, 3 of whom are in custody, are being tried.

Families who arrived at the Adıyaman Courthouse early in the morning carrying banners of their lost loved ones could not hold back their tears. Speaking there, Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, President of the Champion Angels Association, said, “This case is a beacon of hope not only for us but for future generations. We will fight together until we achieve justice. We will continue to make our voices heard as one heart and one force. We have a promise; in the end, justice will be served.”

Speaking afterward, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said, “We have full faith in the justice system of the Republic of Türkiye. We experienced a catastrophe with the pain of losing 75 of our citizens and 35 of our children in the Isias Hotel during the disaster of the century that occurred on February 6. We have expectations from justice. We are here with all our sensitivity so that the decision to emerge from the Isias case will serve as an example for all of Türkiye and the Republic of Türkiye, to ensure that these rule-breaking, law-defying events do not happen again.”
