5-point statement released after MGK meeting: Notable 'Israel' emphasis

The National Security Council (MGK) meeting, chaired by Erdoğan, has concluded. The Directorate of Communications released a 5-point statement regarding the meeting.

Following the meeting in question, the Directorate of Communications issued a written statement:

"The National Security Council convened on October 3, 2024, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

At the meeting;

1. The Council was briefed on the operations carried out with determination, resolve, and success both domestically and abroad against all threats and dangers to our national unity, solidarity, and survival, primarily the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH terrorist organizations, as well as recent international developments.

2. It was emphasized that activities aimed at neutralizing terrorist organizations nested in Syrian territory will continue without interruption and that no plan or attempt at a fait accompli that could harm our national security will be permitted; it was stated that efforts to resolve the conflict in the country in line with the interests and expectations of our region and the Syrian people will be increased.

3. Our determination to advance cooperation with our neighbor Iraq in the fight against terrorist organizations that pose a common threat to our countries, primarily the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, was reaffirmed; the importance we attach to the security, peace, and prosperity of the brotherly Iraqi people was underlined once again.

4. It was stated that, in addition to Türkiye's determined efforts to stop the genocide that the Palestinian people have been subjected to before the eyes of the entire world for a year, and to ensure a permanent ceasefire and peace in Palestine without delay, international efforts must also be increased and sustained. A call was made for actors in positions of responsibility, primarily the United Nations Security Council, to take action immediately to prevent Israel's attacks, which it has directed beyond Palestinian territories with the goal of spreading conflicts to the Middle East. In the face of Israel's inhumane attacks, it was reaffirmed that Türkiye, with its nation and state, will stand by the brotherly Lebanese people and their government. Israel's declaration of the United Nations Secretary-General as persona non grata and the banning of his entry into the country was condemned as the latest example of Israel's disregard for the law.

5. It was noted that Türkiye will not allow its sincere approach and efforts toward developing grounds for cooperation through the establishment of permanent stability and peace in the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas to be abused; it was emphasized that acting with common sense is the most correct choice."
