500 miners protest in Çayırhan: 'This will lead to a hunger strike'

500 mine workers have locked themselves inside the mine at the Çayırhan Thermal Power Plant in the Nallıhan district of Ankara in protest against the privatization decision regarding the mining fields. The privatization decision regarding the mining fields of the Çayırhan Thermal Power Plant in the Nallıhan district of Ankara has been met with backlash from miners. 500 miners working at the site locked themselves inside the mine during the 08.00 shift, launching a protest against the privatization decision.

Speaking to 12punto regarding the workers' resistance, Talih Kocabıyık, Central Anatolia Branch President of the Mining Workers' Union of Turkey, stated the following:

'THIS WILL LEAD TO A HUNGER STRIKE'

"500 miners are saying stop to privatization by locking themselves underground. This number will reach 900 by the end of the day with the addition of the other shift. We are saying no to privatization. We have been in talks with all the authorities for 1 and a half months. We are determined. If there is no positive response, this will lead to a hunger strike."
