58-year-old British tourist arrested for spitting on Turkish flag in Alanya
A British tourist who spat on a Turkish flag in a hotel lobby in the Alanya district of Antalya has been sent to prison.
In an incident that occurred at a hotel located in Alanya's Dinek neighborhood, an argument broke out between 58-year-old Kerr and hotel staff. After witnessing Kerr spitting on the Turkish flag hanging in the lobby following the argument, hotel staff reported the situation to the police.
Upon the report, teams from the Alanya District Police Department's Security Bureau took Kerr into custody. Kerr, whose statement was taken at the police station with the help of an interpreter, was referred to the Alanya Courthouse following the procedures.
Brought before the on-duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace, Kerr was arrested for the crime of "insulting the symbols of the state's sovereignty." It was reported that Kerr was sent to the Alanya L-Type Closed Prison.
