79 years and 8 months in prison for Ülkü Ocakları officials who raided a TV station and attacked a journalist and council member

Council member and businessman Sedat Kılınç, who resigned from the MHP in protest after MHP Kayseri MP Baki Ersoy was expelled from the party, went to Deniz Postası Television on April 8, 2022, to participate in a program he had been invited to.

Five minutes before the live broadcast, a group of approximately 50 Ülkü Ocakları members raided the station. The group assaulted both Editor-in-Chief Azim Deniz and Sedat Kılınç.

Following the attack, which was also captured on security cameras, journalist Azim Deniz and businessman Sedat Kılınç received medical treatment at a hospital, while 7 people were taken into custody after an investigation by police teams.

According to the report by İsmail Arı from Birgün: The defendants were sentenced in the case opened after the attack. In the hearing held at the Kayseri 1st High Criminal Court, following a trial that lasted 2 years and 1 month, 7 people were sentenced to a total of 79 years and 8 months in prison.

The court stated on May 10, 2024, that the defendants Ozan Karademir, Onur Akça, Oğuzhan Karaerik, Mustafa Önal, Furkan Yavuz, Alparslan Türkeş İnce, and Abdulkadir Ekici were each sentenced to 11 years and 4 months, totaling 79 years and 8 months in prison.

The crimes for which the defendants were sentenced are listed as follows: "Simple assault, violation of workplace immunity by using force or threats, property damage, deprivation of liberty by force, threat or deception, and preventing the exercise of freedom of belief, thought, and opinion in a chain manner."
