86 people detained during DEM Party's Abdullah Zeydan protests in Esenyurt released
The decision by the provincial election board to award the mandate to AKP candidate Abdulahat Arvas, despite DEM Party candidate Abdullah Zeydan winning the local elections, had sparked reactions. 86 people who made statements regarding the issue in Istanbul's Esenyurt district were released at the courthouse after being held in custody for two days.
DEM Party Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Abdullah Zeydan's ban on his political rights was revoked by the Ministry of Justice, and the subsequent attempt to award the mandate to AKP candidate Abdulahat Arvas by the provincial election board's decision had sparked reactions.
86 people, including TİP Esenyurt and Büyükçekmece District Chairs and party members, who were detained for participating in a press statement and protest organized by the Labor and Democracy Forces in Istanbul's Esenyurt district regarding the issue, gave their statements at the Çağlayan Courthouse.
The 86 people, who were referred to the courthouse after a 2-day detention period, were released after their procedures were completed.
Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık also followed the proceedings at the courthouse.
