9 arrests in 'Butlan' operation

Thirteen people were detained today as part of an investigation launched into allegations of "interference with the will of delegates" regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress.

It was learned that the individuals in custody include the CHP Kilis Provincial Chair and the driver of CHP member Veli Ağbaba.

As part of the operation, 11 of the detained individuals were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest, while two were referred with a request for judicial control in the form of house arrest.

9 ARRESTS, 4 UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL

In this context, Safi Karayalçın, Suat Dülger, Kalender Özdemir, Özkan Deniz, Halil İbrahim Şahin, Umut Mehmet Sapan, Mehmet Ayıp Demirbüken, Metin Kaya, and Gaffar Çiçek were arrested.

Melda Tanışman Tutan, Gülhan Aydın, Ayça Akpek Şenay, and Hayati Kaya were released under judicial control conditions.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a statement regarding the investigation.

The full statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

“Within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding allegations that there was interference aimed at influencing the voting will of delegates at the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party; as a result of the work carried out by the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Anti-Financial Crimes Branch, 13 suspects evaluated to have committed the crimes of violating the Law on Political Parties, bribery, and laundering assets derived from crime were detained, and search and seizure operations were carried out at the suspects' addresses in the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Şanlıurfa, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, and Malatya.”
