A new development has occurred in the reopened investigation into the 2011 death of former MİT official Kaşif Kozinoğlu in Silivri Prison. The procedures at the gendarmerie for the 9 suspects detained in the second wave of operations within the scope of the investigation have been completed.
The suspects, including journalist Selahattin Günday, cameraman İdris Tiftikçi, and healthcare workers, were referred to the courthouse following their processing.
It was stated that the investigation, conducted by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, is continuing with the aim of uncovering new evidence regarding Kozinoğlu's death and clarifying all aspects of the incident.
Kaşif Kozinoğlu was taken to the hospital after falling ill at Silivri Prison on November 12, 2011, and subsequently passed away. The investigation conducted at that time was closed in 2012 with a decision of non-prosecution.
The file was reopened on August 26, 2026, following the lifting of the non-prosecution decision. It was reported that a special team was formed as part of the new investigation and that previous evidence is also being re-examined.
One of the notable steps in the investigation was the exhumation process. It was decided to collect bone, soil, and other samples from the grave to determine the exact cause of Kozinoğlu's death and to establish whether there was any third-party intervention.
It was stated that the collected samples will be evaluated alongside prison camera footage, 112 emergency records, and hospital documents, and that the Council of Forensic Medicine is expected to conduct a new examination regarding the cause of death.
