AKP Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and AKP candidate Yücel Yılmaz invited the press to the municipality to deliver a farewell speech. Yılmaz congratulated the new CHP Mayor Ahmet Akın, saying, "May it be auspicious and beneficial."
Highlights from Yılmaz's speech are as follows:
“The March 31 Local Elections have concluded, and our brother Ahmet Akın has achieved a great result and won. Out of our 20 districts, CHP won 15, the IYI Party won one, and the AK Party won four. May it be auspicious for our friends who won. May it also be auspicious for our brother Ahmet Akın. The certificate of election will likely be delivered on Wednesday. Until the certificate is received, the responsibility for the building and the municipality remains with us, but rest assured that we will hand over a municipality that has accomplished strong and beautiful work, established its infrastructure, and where sweat has been shed for 5 years, to the friends who will take over from us, with its integrity and everything else intact. This was a democratic election race. A good campaign period has passed. May it be auspicious for the winners. We, as the municipality, have held our preliminary meeting. When they arrive, we will hand over our municipality with its infrastructure ready to the new administration. May the local elections be auspicious for our Balıkesir and for Turkey.”
