A new era in markets: QR code system is coming
Preparations for the QR code system in food businesses have been completed. With the implementation of the new system, citizens will be able to access information about the products they want.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has implemented the 'QR Code System in Food Businesses.' Accordingly, the QR code system is starting in food businesses such as chain markets. Now, all information about a product can be learned before it reaches the checkout.
Speaking to milliyet.com.tr, Baki Öztürk, a member of the Legal Commission of the Consumer Confederation (TÜKONFED), stated the following:
“The QR code system, launched to ensure that consumers can access reliable food, has been implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The goal here is for citizens to be able to easily query how reliable the product they have purchased is, throughout the process from the initial production stage to the consumption stage.''
HOW WILL CITIZENS PERFORM THE QUERY?
The only thing the consumer needs to do is download the “Tarım Cebimde” (Agriculture in My Pocket) application to their phone and click on the “Business Inspection Query” option in the “Food Control” menu. Afterward, they must scan the QR code with their camera. Thanks to the visuals containing a unique QR code for each business, the consumer will be able to easily access information such as the business's registration/approval number, title, address, and the date of the most recent inspection.
Businesses can create their own special QR code document by clicking on the “Business QR Code Creation” link at https://guvenilirgida.tarimorman.gov.tr and filling in the required information, and they can hang these in places where citizens can easily see them and perform their queries.
The Tarım Cebimde application does not actually just show when food businesses were last inspected. It is an application that displays a lot of information, from Farmer Registration System data to information about the products grown. It is also being continuously developed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
WHAT SHOULD A CITIZEN DO IF THEY DETECT A SUSPICIOUS PRODUCT?
Currently, the Business Inspection Query includes information on the most recent inspection, but Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı also stated that the QR code result will include not only the date but also the inspection result, and that work on this matter will be concluded as quickly as possible. In other words, when a product that is suspected of being counterfeit or unreliable is encountered, the results of inspections conducted as a result of reports made by citizens will also be visible through the QR code query in the near future. However, the contact information for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is also available in the Tarım Cebimde application. Additionally, citizens can easily file their complaints and reports via the ALO 174 FOOD LINE and the Ministry of Trade's ALO 175 CONSUMER ADVISORY LINE and learn the results from there as well. Furthermore, the Ministries conduct the necessary inspections as a result of these reports and complaints.
