A strange request from a Deputy Governor! Appeal by sexual harassment victim accepted

Kırşehir Deputy Governor Alper Balcı is facing a lawsuit for allegedly sexually harassing and threatening a woman in 2022, while he was serving in Eskişehir. 

According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün, a previous investigation into allegations that Balcı had insulted and threatened the woman had resulted in a decision of non-prosecution.

Access bans had been imposed on several reports, including the one BirGün published on its front page on June 22, 2023, under the headline "Panic of Guilt." Balcı had requested a publication ban and access restrictions on reports about himself that had not yet been published, claiming they would "create chaos," but the court rejected the request.

APPEAL ACCEPTED

It has now emerged that an appeal was filed against the closure of the "sexual harassment and threat" investigation into Balcı. The victim, M.Ç., appealed the "no grounds for prosecution" decision issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The Ankara 6th Criminal Judgeship of Peace accepted the appeal, noting the existence of screenshots regarding correspondence related to the crimes of "threat and sexual harassment against a woman."

Subsequently, an indictment was prepared against Balcı on November 1. The indictment states that Balcı sent messages to M.Ç. such as, "This relationship ends in the grave, I will not give up on you, some loves end in the grave, you are my wife until the grave," and sent a photograph of a firearm with the name Alper Balcı written on it. In his defense, Balcı claimed he was being slandered. The indictment states that Balcı committed the crimes of sexual harassment and threats in a chain-like manner. In her previous statement to the prosecutor's office, the woman named M.Ç. stated that she had met Balcı 4 years ago and said, "Although he was married, he lied to me to have a religious marriage ceremony and played with my pride. He borrowed money from me many times by saying, 'I am your religiously married husband, I have rights over you,' and did not pay it back."
