Abdulkadir Selvi's 'Kavala' call likely to anger Bahçeli: 'Turkey has relaxed, next is...'
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, while drawing attention to the 1,000th protest held by the Saturday Mothers at Galatasaray Square in Taksim, said, "Now it is time for the Kavala file."
Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi drew attention to the 1,000th protest of the Saturday Mothers in his column today.
"TURKEY HAS RELAXED"
Recalling the imprisonment of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan due to a poem he recited, as well as the headscarf ban, Selvi stated, "Did this nation not bring the AK Party to power as a light against the darkness of the 90s and as a hope against the bans of February 28? Then what befits the AK Party is to hold the darkness of the 90s to account. It is to continue being the address for freedoms and reforms."
Stating that the pardoning of retired generals imprisoned for the February 28 process shows Erdoğan's greatness, Selvi wrote, "The Saturday Mothers were allowed to protest. What happened? Turkey relaxed. An unnecessary tension was prevented. Now it is time for the Kavala file."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
While Selvi's articles on "normalization" and "softening" that began after the March 31 local elections have drawn attention, his articles calling for the release of Gezi prisoner Osman Kavala have caused harsh reactions from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli.
Pointing to Selvi, Bahçeli had said, "Rest assured, if the person who penned these had directly said 'Osman Kavala should be released,' he would have at least made a more consistent and principled statement."
