MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's handshake with DEM Party deputies, which marked the beginning of a new process, followed by his call to the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, to 'make the organization lay down its arms,' continues to see significant developments.
Following Bahçeli's call, a DEM Party delegation took action, traveled to İmralı to meet with terrorist leader Öcalan, and subsequently visited political parties in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).
11th President Abdullah Gül has shared his assessments regarding the new process.
'AN EXTRAORDINARY STEP'
According to a report by Sema Kızılarslan from Karar, Gül evaluated Bahçeli's 'historic' call as an 'extraordinary step.' Regarding Bahçeli's statements, Gül said, “During my presidency and in my previous positions, I always advocated that this issue must be removed from the agenda through Turkey's own initiative. As someone who holds this perspective, I evaluate Mr. Bahçeli's statements as an 'extraordinary step.'”
'ERDOĞAN'S APPROACH IS CAUTIOUS BUT CORRECT'
Gül described the statements made by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a 'cautious but correct' approach. Gül also characterized Erdoğan's support for the process as 'sincere.'
