Academic Emrah Gülsunar arrested
Academic Emrah Gülsunar, who was detained yesterday due to a social media post, has been arrested.
Gülsunar had announced on social media yesterday that he had been detained.
It was alleged that Emrah Gülsunar was detained due to a poll he conducted on X asking, "Is it legitimate or not to ask for outside help to overthrow a dictatorial regime?"
ARRESTED
Gülsunar, who was referred to the courthouse today, has been arrested. Lawyer Hasan Sınar announced that Gülsunar had been arrested.
POLL CONTROVERSY
The poll in which Gülsunar asked the question, "Is it legitimate to ask for help to overthrow a dictatorial regime?" on his social media account had drawn reactions from some groups.
Gülsunar had stated that he shared this poll regarding Venezuela in the context of Nobel Prize discussions.
Emrah Gülsunar's social media post was as follows:
"I had already written this under the tweet, but I will write it once more because of these malicious trolls who are consciously trying to get me arrested: I posted this poll regarding Venezuela in the context of Nobel Prize discussions, not regarding Turkey. The tweet already asks an objective question; my own opinion is not included in the tweet."
