Access and security alarm on X: Complaints increased by 452 percent in one week
X (formerly known as Twitter) is in the spotlight due to a striking increase in user complaints in Turkey. According to data from Şikayetvar, complaints regarding the platform have risen by 452 percent in the last week. User complaints are primarily concentrated on account security and access issues.
Şikayetvar has examined the recent surge in complaints regarding the X platform. The data shows that the increase is not limited to the classic "access issue" category.
Prominent issues include not receiving SMS verification codes, inability to log into accounts, inability to use phone numbers, suspicion of account hijacking, and failure to receive results from support processes.
Some users state that they receive X verification codes on their phones without having initiated any action, and subsequently lose access to their accounts.
The recurring pattern in the complaints is noteworthy. Users report receiving SMS verification codes without their request, followed by being logged out of their accounts or being unable to log back in. Some complaints indicate that login attempts via email or phone number have failed, and that login attempts using usernames are met with suspicious activity warnings. This picture points to a broader issue than isolated user error. Users are concerned not only about technical glitches but also about the security of their accounts.
Some of the complaints received by the platform regarding the issue are as follows:
"After receiving a notification that my account on the X platform was accessed from another device, it was hijacked without my knowledge. During this process, my access to my account was completely cut off and my linked email address was changed without my permission. After the incident, I followed the 'forgot password' steps and made the necessary notifications, but I did not receive a response. My account is still under the control of third parties."
"I received a verification code for my X account, then my access to my account was cut off and I believe it has been hijacked. Although the username and phone number belong to me, I cannot log in. I applied to X but could not get a solution. I request that the account be returned to me, malicious content be removed, and necessary security measures be taken."
"Someone else entered my account, changed my username, and had the account suspended. I changed the password as soon as I realized it 3-5 days later, and I informed the X support unit that my account had been stolen, but I did not receive a positive response."
"I was suddenly logged out of my X account and have not been able to gain access since that date. I believe my account has been hijacked because my email address has been changed. Despite my password reset attempts, I did not receive a verification code. I applied to X but there was no response. I declare that I am not responsible for any transactions made during this process, and I request that my account be investigated, returned to me, and that third-party use be prevented."
