Access ban on İmamoğlu's YouTube and X accounts: Cited as national security
The YouTube channel of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and the X (formerly Twitter) account of his Presidential Candidate Office have been blocked from access on the grounds of "protecting national security and public order."
Despite the access ban decision imposed on İmamoğlu's accounts, his YouTube channel with 787 thousand subscribers and his X account with 222 thousand followers have not yet been made invisible from Turkey by the platforms.
ACCOUNT NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGING SINCE HE WAS ARRESTED
Access bans targeting İmamoğlu's social media accounts have come to the agenda before.
Following the arrest decision last year, his main X account with 9.7 million followers was blocked from access on April 24 by the decision of the Istanbul 8th Criminal Court of Peace on the same grounds, and the social media platform had made the account invisible from Turkey due to the decision.
The international X account (imamoglu_int) opened later, as well as various X accounts opened on behalf of the Presidential Candidate Office, were also subject to successive access ban decisions.
Similar decisions were also issued regarding profiles that were reopened by changing the account names.
