Access ban on news regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's detention
An access ban has been imposed on news reports concerning the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu along with 106 other people on March 19.
The ban was applied to the T24 news report titled "A first in history; İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu detained along with 106 people!"
A "removal from publication" decision was issued for the news report regarding the detention of İmamoğlu along with 106 people, within the scope of two separate investigations launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "corruption" and "terrorism" with the allegation of "being a leader of a criminal organization."
It was stated that the decision, notified by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), the public institution authorized regarding internet content regulations in Turkey, was taken in accordance with Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 on the Regulation of Publications Made on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed Through These Publications.
It was stated that the decision was taken by the Istanbul 5th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on September 19, 2025.
It was also added to the relevant notification that the requirement of the decision in question "must be implemented immediately and within four hours at the latest."
