Access block on news reporting the release of Mustafa Atmaca

Hacı Mustafa Atmaca, known by the nickname 'Erzurumlu Hacı Dönerci' and the owner of Üçler Döner, who has 650 thousand followers on social media, insulted the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his comrades-in-arms on November 10.

Following the spread of the video, Atmaca was arrested on Saturday for insulting Atatürk and was released 2 days later.

It was stated that Atmaca was released on the grounds of having tuberculosis.

ACCESS BLOCK IMPOSED ON THE NEWS

The Access Providers Association (ESB) has imposed an access block on the news reporting that Mustafa Atmaca was released.

The following statements were included in the announcement:

"The access blocking decisions issued by the Criminal Judgeships of Peace regarding your site, within the scope of Law No. 5651 on the Regulation of Publications Made on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed Through These Publications, have been submitted for your information within the scope of the coordination duty granted to our Association by the same law.

If you remove the content at the URL addresses specified in the attached list from publication and reply to this email as 'contents have been removed from publication', the necessary procedures will be carried out by our Association."

PRESSURES ON JOURNALISTS HAVE INCREASED

In the 2023 World Press Freedom Index prepared by the international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Turkey fell 16 places compared to 2022, ranking 165th out of 180 countries.
